Astro 101 Monday Night is BACK: Essential Dignities Made Simple

One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing astrology content online from people who do not understand the fundamentals.
If you are charging people for readings, you should know Essential Dignities. Period. Reading charts for money without understanding basic planetary condition is, in my opinion, unethical. You cannot responsibly tell someone what a planet is doing if you do not understand how that planet is functioning in the sign it occupies.
That is why the first Monday Night Astro 101 class is about Essential Dignities.

Astrology does not have to be complicated, but the basics matter.
Essential Dignities help us understand the condition of a planet. Is the planet operating from a place that supports its nature? Does it have the tools it needs?
Does it have to work harder, adapt, or express itself in a less straightforward way?
The four conditions we will start with are:
Dignity | Plain meaning | Simple example |
Domicile | A planet is in a sign it rules and feels at home | Mars in Aries |
Exaltation | A planet is honored and works strongly in a sign | Moon in Taurus |
Detriment | A planet is opposite a sign it rules and must adapt | Venus in Aries |
Fall | A planet is opposite its exaltation and may feel less supported | Moon in Scorpio |
None of this means a placement is automatically good or bad.
A planet in detriment or fall is not doomed. It may simply require more awareness, effort, maturity, or adaptation. That distinction matters when you are interpreting someone else's life.
During class, I will show you how to find these conditions in a birth chart, what they actually mean, and how to use them without turning astrology into fatalistic nonsense.
The goal of Monday Night Astro 101 is simple. One foundational concept at a time, explained clearly enough that you can actually use it.
If you are learning astrology, refreshing your foundations, or already reading charts and realizing there may be gaps in your training, come join us.
How to spot Essential Dignities in your own chart
You do not need to read your whole chart at once. Start small.
Pick one planet. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars are good starting points because most people can connect with their themes quickly.
Then follow this simple process:
Find the planet in your chart
Look for the planet symbol and note the sign it is in.
Name the planet’s job
The Moon relates to emotions, needs, instinct, and safety. Mercury relates to thinking, speaking, learning, and translating information.
Look at the sign
Ask what kind of environment that sign creates. Is it fast, slow, fixed, flexible, private, expressive, careful, bold?
Check the dignity
See whether the planet is in domicile, exaltation, detriment, or fall.
Translate it into real life
Ask how that planet’s themes show up in choices, habits, relationships, timing, and self-understanding.
The point is not to label yourself. The point is to read the chart with more clarity.
